LumoScanner System

A scanning system that can photographs close to the entire skin surface of the patient, archive the images and visualize the capture images. The LumoScanner System is comprised of the LumoScanner hardware, LumoCrunch image processing software and LumoDoc scan visualization software.

LumoScanner hardware

During each scan, LumoScanner’s six very high resolution (64MP) cameras collectively capture 360 images, 180 while scanning the anterior and 180 during the posterior scan.
The anterior or posterior scans will each take around 25 seconds.All the images are stored in the cameras during the scan process. After the scan, the images will be uploaded to the cloud for processing.

High Body Coverage with High Resolution

Hardware scans more than 90% of body surface with better- than clinical resolution.

Ease of Operation

Can be operated by staff with minimal expertise.

LumoCrunch

LumoCrunch cloud software uses the images from the scanner as input, processes them and outputs a DICOM file for future analysis and/or visualization.
LumoCrunch
  • Renders the large number 2D images from the scanner as one 3D rendering
  • Extracts the raw lesion information that is useful for clinicians (e.g. crops, locations and sizes of pigmented skin lesions)
  • Creates a TBP DICOM file that contains the 2D images, 3D rendering and lesion data.
Incidentally, Lumo Imaging has developed and published a proposal for TBP DICOM and is currently serving as a voting member of the working group that is tasked with the development of the TBP DICOM standard. Please note the crops from 2D images are orthorectified before storage in DICOM files. Orthorectification is unique to Lumo, the rest of the processing steps performed as part of the LumoCrunch pipeline are quite standard, can be readily found in literature and have been used by other vendors of TBP Systems (e.g. Fotofinder and Vectra 360). Orthorectification, is a well-known and standard step for processing satellite imaging information (akin to our senses seeing an oval shaped tabletop and our brain interpreting the information as a circular tabletop). The resulting processed data will be stored as a DICOM, most probably in the provider’s cloud space.

LumoCrunch

LumoCrunch cloud software uses the images from the scanner as
input, processes them and outputs a DICOM file for future analysis
and/or visualization.
LumoCrunch

  • Renders the large number 2D images from the scanner as one 3D rendering
  • Extracts the raw lesion information that is useful for clinicians (e.g. crops, locations and sizes of pigmented skin lesions)
  • Creates a TBP DICOM file that contains the 2D images, 3D rendering and lesion data.
Incidentally, Lumo Imaging has developed and published a proposal for TBP DICOM and is currently serving as a voting member of the working group that is tasked with the development of the TBP DICOM standard. LumoDoc can visualize all three kinds of information, allow the clinician to examine the scan from anywhere and allow the clinician to annotate the scans.

Additionally, LumoDoc can side-by-side visualize the information from two TBP DICOM files (presumably from two different points of time but from the same individual). For example the clinician can side-by-side compare two 3D renderings, two 2D images or 2 lesion crops in order to view the subtle changes in the lesions over time.

LumoTrack Clinical Decision Support Device (CDS)

A scanning system that can photographs close to the entire skin surface of the patient, archive the images and visualize the capture images. The LumoScanner System is comprised of the LumoScanner hardware, LumoCrunch image processing software and LumoDoc scan visualization software.
LumoTrack is a noninvasive skin imaging software that is indicated for the review of skin lesions by trained medical practitioners. The LumoTrack should be used in conjunction with the totality of dermatological relevant information from the clinical assessment, including visual analysis of the lesion, by a dermatologist.

The device should not be used on patients as a screening tool. The device should not be used as the sole diagnostic criterion nor to confirm clinical diagnosis of skin cancer. The LumoTrack functionality already exists in other TBP systems’ software (e.g. FotoFinder’s). The LumoTrack may not function equally as well for all Fitzpatrick skin types.

Flacara - Future of Dermoscopy

Flacara systems consists of a cell-phone attachment and a Flacara cell-phone app.

Flacara Attachment

The attachment is only compatible with iPhone pro series 13 or newer as those iPhones are capable of recording images of lesions with 10x magnification. The attachment is only there to occlude all ambient light and to illuminate the lesion in a controlled manner and possibly cross-polarize the light that returns to the iPhone. Using the attachment with the app is necessary because 1) at distances that yield a 10x magnification, the ambient light will be partially occluded and therefore the lesion may not be evenly illuminated 2) without the controlled light of the attachment, the ambient light could affect the coloration of resulting images. The attachment may or may not be configured for cross- polarized imaging.

Flacara Attachment

The texture or overview image is an image with the lesion at its center from around 6- 10” away. This image can be use by the system for locating the lesion in the future. (The above functionality is similar to that of MetaOptima’s MoleScope which can be purchased over the counter).

The comparison module provides for side-by-side comparison of the closeup images from two instances of the same lesion and provide the features values for the two instances (e.g. area at first instance and area at the second instance)
Additionally, during the side-by-side comparison of the dermascopic images from past and present, the Flacara add-on modules built-in AI model will be able to provide an index related to amount of suspicious transformation in the lesion over time.
